Milkshakes, Smoothies and Freezes

Summer Cool and Refreshing Milkshakes, Smoothies or Freezes

Many might asked what is the difference between Milkshakes and Smoothies. Milkshakes usually involve milk and a scoop or two of ice-cream and smoothies basically use yogurt instead of milk and ice-cream. And it is easy to make and consume. And can be quite filling to. And anything that just uses fruits and ice to blend are freezes.

And it is also easy to get the children to help to make them and since they make them, they will consume them which make it easy for pricky children.

Here’s my sharing of milkshakes recipes and smoothies recipes:

Milkshakes:

1. Honeydew Milkshake

Ingredients:
1-2 slices of Honeydews
1 cup of fresh milk
2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream (not in the pictures.)
Ice-cubes

Methods:
1. Slice the honeydews into cubes
2. Add in the milk, ice-cream and ice-cubes. Blend in a blender till all mixed well and ready to serve.
Hint: Serve well with pan-cake waffle and fruits.

2. Strawberry Milkshake
Ingredients:
10 strawberry
1 cup of milk
1 to 2 scoops of ice-cream (I prefer the vanilla one but dh and Kai likes the strawberry one)
Ice-cubes
Optional -1 tsp of sugar in case it is sour (I used raw sugar)

Methods:
1. Washed, sliced and removed the stem from strawberries. Place into blender.
2. Add in all the other ingredients except sugar.
3. Blend till all well mixed. And ready to serve.
Hint: Nice to serve with pan-cakes, egg and sausages.

And can also make other milkshakes like raspberries, blueberries catacoupe(rock melon), water melon, papaya, banana, or even mixed berries (we have tried strawberries and raspberries since they about the same time of harvesting) etc. Happy trying.

Smoothies:
1. Strawberry Smoothies
Ingredients:
10 strawberries
1 cup of yogurt (I prefer the plain but dh and ds like the strawberry one)
Ice-cubes

Methods:
1. Washed, sliced and removed the stems from Strawberries. Pour into blender.
2. Add in all the ingredients and blend.
3. Blend till well-mixed. Ready to serve.

Can try with other fruits as well, there is definitely one that the children will prefer. It is tasty as well

Fruit Freeze

1. Water Melon Freeze
Ingredients:
2 slices of water melon
Ice-cubes

Methods:
1. Cut the water melons into cubes. Pour into blender.
2. Add in the ice and blend till well mixed.
3. Served with cookies for snacks in the hot afternoon of Summer Heat.

Can try with other fruits as well. Children simply love these.

We have been trying with different kinds of fruits available and since it is the peaches, apricot, nectarine, prunes and plums as well as the blueberries harvesting session.

Have fun experimenting with all the other fruits available.

Hello Kitty Red & White Agar Agar

Here’s the sharing of our Red and White Hello Kitty Agar Agar(It is the first time that I am using the Agar Agar Strips since in Singapore I always use the powder form):

Recipe:
Ingredients:
45g of Agar Agar Strips
12 cups of water
3 cups of sugar (I used only 2.5 cups of raw sugars)
1 cup of coconut milk or carnation milk (I prefer the fresh coconut but not available here)
0.5 cup of sago
4 cups of water
Food colouring (Those we used for cake -icing)
1 tsp of vanilla essence (Other you can use food flavouring)
optional – 1)add in fruits if you like, mango, peache s etc.
2)add pandan leaves into the water to boil for agar agar.(I cannot find any here.)

Methods
1. Soak the agar agar strips in water for at least 30 minutes. And at the same time, bring 4 cups of water to boil and add in the sago, stir and boil at medium heat for about 5-10 minutes.

2. After sago is done, run in cold water to remove the starch and then drain and soak sago in cold water to prevent sticky together and leave it till later to drain for use.

3. Bring the 12 cups of water to boil and add in the soak agar agar(remove the water from soaking by squeezing it), stir till all the agar agar strips dissolve. Then add in sugar and stir till all dissolve, then turn to low heat.

4. Using a small pot, scoop some over for colouring and also add in some drained sago and then pour into moulds.

5. While the agar agar in the moulds are setting, continue to stir those in the pot to prevent hardening and also burnt.

6. Add in the coconut milk and the remaining sago (drained them) and pour into moulds. And let it cool down first before putting into fridge to let it set.

7. When it is harden and cold, serve it.
